COVID-19
affecting ISLN
By Ayedi Nihel
Coronavirus had a number of effects on ISLN. One of
the consequences was the struggle to
offer online programs or to protect the full rights of those who were impacted.
We cannot deny the administration's efforts to mitigate the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic in our institute, “ Be quick, and you will have no regrets”,as
one student impacted by covid-19 put it.
Coronavirus Outbreak ‘s impact on ISLN
To begin with, Universities are locations where students sit close to
each other, but the spread of the virus has had an influence on this unique
system, and ISLN was no exception.
Education officials have been compelled
to cancel classes and move to online learning in recent weeks ,due to the
spread of the coronavirus pandemic . However the crisis has exposed the persistent
economic and racial inequities that prevent
equal access to these essential public goods. The best approach to ensure that
students maintain access to learning was to use online learning. It was their
solution to lessen the immediate impact of ISLN’s closure, particularly in
terms of ensuring educational continuity. However, this was not the case for all of the students.
Other precautions have been adopted as a result of the emergence of this
disease to restrict interaction, preserve social isolation and preserve interpersonal
social distance. Temperature measurement, sterilization of our Institute and training students on proper protocols ,such as wearing bibs.. all of these things were done, but their implementation was not
strictly followed. It was accompanied by a certain amount of neglect .
Students did not take these
instructions seriously and the administration
did not protect the full rights of affected students by COVID-19 who were
dismissed from their mid-semester tests and confined to El Mouradi Mahdia Hotel , despite receiving phone calls from the administration reassuring
them to return, only to discover that no one was protecting their rights.
Measures and solutions
•
our institute should ensure that students and staff are well-protected
•
The institute should provide resources for high_quality distant
learning, that is also affordable, develop a daily cleaning and routine disinfection of the institute’s environment, as well as measures like
immunization checks, the effectiveness of symptoms reporting, monitoring, fast
testing and tracing suspicious cases
•
There was no evaluation of the impact of policies and strategies, a study on the
efficiency of the distant learning system should be conducted. According to the
students , remote learning courses are insufficient in terms of efficiency and
technological faults in the system have a negative impact on their motivation
to learn
Administrators should implement
changes. They should analyze the steps taken by their peers
who have already taken action in
order to better understand and deal with
the challenges they may face. They
should also act quickly to safeguard their institute and students .The disease’s
spread is predicted to increase before it improves.
To sum up, despite the negative
effect of the covid-19 outbreak ,we
cannot deny ISLN’s efforts because we can use this situation to help our country bridge the digital divide
by narrowing the gap between students who have access to the Internet and
devices at home, and those who do not.
