Parasite - a film review

Do you like Drama packed with social commentary and a lot of thrilling moments? Luckily for you, ‘Parasite’ is one of the best movies in 2019. This piece of Art was released on May 30, 2019 in Korea by Bong Joon Ho with Runtime of 132 min. After its release, the movie earned numerous awards such as Academy Award for best Picture, Palme D’or, Academy Award for best Directing, Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. Let me go straight to the plot with this expressive Quote from the movie between two main characters:

“Ki-Taek: rich people are naïve. No resentments. No creases

On them.

Chung-Sook, Ki-Taek’s wife: It all gets ironed out. Money is an iron. Those creases all get smoothed out by money.”

 



The Plot

What is parasite about? Parasite tells the story of a poverty family, the Kims; father Ki-Taek, mother Chung-Sook, Daughter Ki-Jung and son Ki-Woo; who cunningly place themselves within the service of the Parks, an obscenely wealthy household who are unknowingly harboring a stranger in their basement for years.

Characters

-Ki-Woo is a sensible and impressive young man who feels held back by poverty.

-Ki-Jung is a sensible and hard girl who doesn’t suffer fools. She gains the upper hand with Mrs. Park by feigning extreme expertise and confidence.

-Ki-Taek is the patriarch of family. He has held a bunch of various jobs but struggles to supply for his family.

-Chung-sook is  as brusque and unsentimental as her daughter, toughened by a life in poverty.

Opinion

I would like to offer my personal interpretation; to me, parasite was a story about imposter syndrome. The script is twisted and exciting let to gasp and to grow up your perspective to Korean cinema after gathering the varied themes in the movie such as class, violence, deception, and hope. This 132-mn movie is a phenomenal experience that inspires sorrow, pity, anxiety, and panic thanks to the enthusiast soundtracks. I was hypnotized from the slow start till the final chaos. Furthermore, I highly admire the masterful cinematography packed with deep care of makeup and costumes to produce a well-performed rare movie in the last decade.

 

Is it worth to watch?

Make sure that you will watch the movie before your death, why? I give it 10/10 , a true masterpiece , I have no doubt that I watched one of the best movies in my life, what is this wise and twisted plot, how can the scripts be manic as it is! I would highly recommend it to learn a new message, to taste foreign true art that will leave you speechless.
