Some students can be surprised by the amount of responsibility because they will find themselves alone for the first time. They won't have someone to count on and to take care of them. Others might see it as a chance to be independent and free for the first time in their life. It's all about each one’s point of view but in the end it's their journey to go through. The ABCs of being a college freshman

Image
Author:  Belkhir Taysir Moving on is the hardest thing to do, change always brings with it a new adventure. To be more specific, I will focus on the transition from high school to university, because it is well known that college is more difficult and requires a keen awareness of what to do. Challenging experience: College courses are generally much more difficult than high school courses, with fewer hours in class but a lot more homework and hard work outside of class such as reading, labs and exercises. As a result, studying is no longer something you do only between dinner and bedtime, it’s rather a complete transformation in student's life. In fact, some students will be experience home sickness, missing their family, friends, and pets. They will long for the familiar routines and structures. Family support and its influence on college students: Students in a college often receive financial, emotional, spiritual, fr...

Moving from highschool to college

Image
Author: Bouthaina Sayhi Moving from high school to college   Moving to college is a watershed moment in anyone’s life when they move from dependence to independence, from their comfort zone to their social zone and from following and imitating to thinking and creating. ·        Self dependence Transitioning to college for the first time is relocating from your hometown and family to a new place, whether it’s a dorm or a rented place, and this is where the difficulties begin. Instead of relying on your mother, you will learn how to be truly self-sufficient, and I’ll show you how. You will prepare your own meals, wash your dishes and clothes, and clean your own space all by yourself, yes all by yourself, don’t be surprised. This is how things work as a student. I know it will be difficult at first but believe me when I say you will get used to it and you wi...

Cyberlearning at ISLN

Image
Author: Zemni Nawras Do you really believe that online learning isn’t necessary? Many ISLN students found that online learning is a suitable choice when they are in quarantine. To fight the Covid-19 outbreak, a countrywide lockdown was enforced in March 2001. Students were required to attend online classes for nearly two months and take final exams in unique circumstances. Covid-19 continues to have an impact on life in schools and universities even after the beginning of the next school year 2020-2021. With virtual platforms, however, any student with a laptop, tablet or even smartphone connected to the Internet can continue his / her education from home in complete physical and emotional safety. ISLN has opened its doors to students who cannot afford virtual learning to use the equipment and facilities available and take part in the experiment. The pandemic has tested students’ and instructors’ routines and abilities to cope with atypical hours and communicate with new digital ...

Corona virus & online learning

Image
Author: Derbali Chayma Relaxation, meeting relatives and sleeping well are all symbols of home. The entire world stayed at home once the corona virus appeared, not to relax but to keep safe. Students, in particular, were required to     continue their studies online, which I don’t dislike. We are familiar with online learning, but, I’m personally opposed to online learning for several reasons. Unfortunately, three quarters of Tunisians perceive themselves as poor. Regardless of the corona virus, most families cannot afford online learning for their children, making life in the quarantine more difficult. It’s obvious that government will not be able to provide internet access to its citizens especially in these conditions.   How could this problem be resolved? I believe that teachers play a critical role in overcoming this barrier. Every teacher can record his lesson so that students who were unable to attend can download it. Students are also responsible. They mu...
