Moving from high school to college

Moving to college is a watershed moment in anyone’s life when they move from dependence to independence, from their comfort zone to their social zone and from following and imitating to thinking and creating.

·       Self dependence

Transitioning to college for the first time is relocating from your hometown and family to a new place, whether it’s a dorm or a rented place, and this is where the difficulties begin.

Instead of relying on your mother, you will learn how to be truly self-sufficient, and I’ll show you how. You will prepare your own meals, wash your dishes and clothes, and clean your own space all by yourself, yes all by yourself, don’t be surprised. This is how things work as a student. I know it will be difficult at first but believe me when I say you will get used to it and you will succeed. You are no longer the slacker ; you must now get up on your own in the morning or your educational career will be jeopardized. And, of course, you don’t want to do that.

·       Time management

Additionally, you will learn time management and how to balance your education, homework, housework, and entertainment. You will organize your time and priorities, allowing you to focus on your most important activities. You will also be able make your own schedule which will be extremely beneficial. Always remember that your education comes first, and oversleeping is no good.

·       Management skills

Being a college student teaches you financial management, such as how to manage your money and be organized when buying and doing things, as well to manage your daily budget. However, just a reminder for girls, if your budget is solely for shopping and makeup, you will be broke by the end of the month.

·       Soft skills

You will be more adaptable, and you will think outside of the box. How will you do it? Okay, as a new student, this experience will teach you how to see things from different perspectives, how to deal with problems and with difficulties, and how to be aware and more selective in choosing solutions and making decisions. In other words, it will change your way of thinking and teach how to think in your own space.

·       Social skills

Being in college means making new friends wich necessitates soft and social skills, as many students have discovered. It is not easy to make friends with people from different countries, mindsets, and backgrounds, especially introvert students who may struggle to form relationships and integrate with others. But this experience pushes you to face your fears one at a time. You learn how to communicate and integrate with your classmates, which is not easy, but you can overcome this by joining clubs or events that allow you to socialize and progress. Also, some students should stop staring at people who are shy or always alone and be more aware of people who have social anxiety because you are causing them too much stress, and destroying their self-confidence. So, please, stop being rude and toxic to others, it costs nothing.

The college environment is nothing more than a first step in life that propels you forward in terms of self-esteem, self-progression, and even leadership as you begin to build a successful career.
